1.         Universal music sponsors honey jam showcase - Auditions to be held ON june 7, 2002

Universal Music is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Honey Jam 2002 Urban Music Showcase. Performers are invited to audition on June 7th at 6pm at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto; artists outside of Ontario are encouraged to submit their audition on videotape, along with photo and bio. The Honey Jam Showcase will be held at the Phoenix on August 15th, 2002.

The Honey Jam has built a reputation for discovering some amazing talent in the urban music industry. Multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning artist Nelly Furtado was discovered by her manager at the 1997 showcase. Other artists such as Michie Mee, Tara Chase, Londa Larmond, Alana Bridgewater, True and Motion have all graced the Honey Jam stage. Jully Black, who recently signed a joint recording deal with Universal Music Canada and MCA Records U.S., performed at the 1996 Honey Jam.

“We are delighted to be involved with PhemPhat and believe very strongly in what they are doing for the community.  This is an exciting time in Urban music and Universal is going to do what we can to help this great initiative along,” says Randy Lennox, President/CEO of Universal Music Canada.

Universal's sponsorship is giving us the tools to provide enhanced access and opportunity for artists to be seen and heard through our website, the promotional CD and the showcase.  We're very excited about the partnership and to have this level of support for Canadian urban music,” says Ebonnie Rowe, CEO of PhemPhat Productions.

For all further information, especially requirements for the June 7th audition process, please check out www.phemphat.com.
