CARL HENRY UPDATE

MuchMusic is in the midst of a very busy schedule with all the hottest videos and MuchMusic Video Awards Nominees.    I am thrilled to say that Carl Henry’s latest video, “One Night Stand” is sandwiched between the brand new Eminem video and Rakim on MuchMusic.  The production quality of both video and audio stand up between them like a true winner.  Carl looks and sounds great!  And Mishale Lue of Le Chino Soul (CeSoul Music) is featured in the video and as always is beautiful!  This video is sure to turn some heads – take special note of the Canadian flags throughout the video!   Much Vibe is featuring the video as well.

Don’t forget you can always request the video at
www.muchmusic.com and his tracks on your favourite radio station.

RECAPS

FUNK N' SOUL REVIVAL RECAP

Many props go to Christopher Bennett and his team for creating a night to remember at the Reverb last Friday.  You really missed an exciting night of pure soul with some of the most talented soul artists in Toronto if you were unable to attend.  The night started off with the multi-talented and eclectic Shawn Hewitt throwing down some original tunes – a performance of very high energy (not to mention range!).  Then the entire Funk ’n Soul crew came on stage with
Alana Bridgewater, Wade O. Brown, Divine Earth Essence, Julie Crochetiere "Sugar Jones" and Dionne Taylor.  Carl Henry was also in town and graced us with a little a cappella track “Love”, during the break.  Haydain Neale "jacksoul" finished the night off with his unique vocal soul stylings.  The excitement on stage captured the room – unbelievable talent accompanied by a very hot band, Soular.  The talented members of Soular include:  Sandy Mamane (bass), Davide Direnzo (drums), Rohan Staton (guitar), Dafydd Hughes (keys), David Gouveia (percussion), David French (tenor sax), Bryden Baird (trumpet), David Hodge (trombone). You could literally feel the roof being raised at the Reverb as each artist took the stage to perform some original music.  Be ready for this event to be around for awhile.  Proof positive that dreams do come true – just ask Chris!  Check out my photo gallery for some special pics!  Stay tuned for the next Funk ‘n Soul Revival!!

Doors at 9:00 pm; Show at 9:30 pm
Tickets are $34.50 in advance and are available at Ticketmaster, Play de Record, Rotate This, Shanti Baba, Ground Level, Vice, Ed's Record World

EVENT PROFILE:. Check out this night that is sure to bring the house down at Kool Haus!  If you know a lil' something about the convergence of hip and hop, you're no doubt familiar with Toronto's Choclair. Chances are, you've probably even heard of one Kareem Blake.  "Memoirs of Blake Savage is just another way to let me express myself," explains Mr. Savage himself. "I live my life as Kareem Blake and have to deal with situations through that. And then all of a sudden, I become Choclair and have to deal with those situations and still balance out my Kareem Blake life. So it's just a way of digging even deeper into myself, and really putting myself out there."

With De La Soul’s colourful, neo-psychedelic collage of samples and styles, plus the Long Island trio's low-key, clever rhymes and goofy humour, the album sounded like nothing else in hip-hop. Where most of their contemporaries drew directly from old-school rap, funk, or Public Enemy's dense sonic barrage, De La Soul was gentler and more eclectic, taking in not only funk and soul, but also pop, jazz, reggae, and psychedelia.
